CHAPEL HILL – Carolina men’s basketball players will take advantage next season of a change in NCAA rules that allows players to wear numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 for the first time in decades.
Sophomore Seth Trimble will switch from No. 0 to 7 and graduate transfer Paxson Wojcik will wear No. 8.
Other numbers for newcomers include No. 1 Zayden High, No. 2 Elliot Cadeau, No. 3 Cormac Ryan, No. 24 Jae’Lyn Withers, No. 32 James Okonkwo and No. 55 Harrison Ingram.
RJ Davis (No. 4), Armando Bacot (No. 5), Jalen Washington (No. 13) and Duwe Farris (No. 34) will wear the same numbers they wore last season.
Creighton Lebo will change from No. 25 to No. 14, the number his father, Jeff, a UNC assistant coach, wore as a Tar Heel from 1985-89.
Rob Landry will switch from No. 15 to No. 22, the number his father, Pearce, wore as a Tar Heel from 1993-95.
Trimble will be the first Tar Heel to wear No. 7 since Simon Terrell from 1948-50. Wojcik will be the first to don No. 8 since Dick Patterson wore that number in home games in the 1949-50 season.
