3 Stars From UNC's Week Splitting With Clemson & Miami

A two-game split wasn’t what the Tar Heels were looking for this past week, but it’s what happened coming off the impressive home win over Duke.

North Carolina fell to Clemson at the Smith Center on Tuesday night before escaping Coral Gables with a three-point win at Miami on Saturday.

With seven games remaining in the regular season, UNC is now 19-5 overall and 11-2 in the ACC. The Tar Heels are one win from matching last season’s overall total, and have now equaled their ACC win number from a year ago.

Here are our 3 Stars from UNC’s two games this week:

RJ Davis

Davis wasn’t particular efficient in the loss to Clemson, but outside of Armando Bacot, none of the Tar Heels were. Yet, the senior guard still managed 22 points and five assists. And in the win over desperate Miami, he was near the top of his game.

Davis finished with 25 points on 6-for-19 shooting, but he was 5-for-11 from the perimeter, and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. It was the first time in seven games he didn’t miss a free throw. Davis also had five assists again plus he grabbed seven rebounds.

He also played excellent defense in the second half against Miami's Nijel Pack, which was key in the win.,

For the week: 47 points, 10 assists, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.

Armando Bacot

Bacot was the only Tar Heel who played well in the home loss to Clemson, as he tallied 24 points, 13 rebounds, and an assist. He was 7-for-13 from the floor, plus 10-for-11 from the free throw line.

Inside Watsco Center on Saturday, Bacot finished with 10 points, 15 rebounds, and an enormous blocked shot of Norchad Omier’s at the rim. He was 5-for-8 from the floor and missed his only free throw attempt.

So, for the week, Bacot scored 34 points, pulled down 28 rebounds, was 12-for-23 from the floor, and 10-for-12 from the line.

Plus, Bacot was terrific defending Omier overall in the second half.

Elliot Cadeau

Cadeau gets this honor because of how he played in the win at Miami.

As for the Clemson game, the freshman point guard struggled with five points and one assist in 19 minutes. But he was outstanding in beating the Hurricanes.

Cadeau scored a career-high 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-6 from 3-point range. The 14 field goal attempts and six perimeter attempts were both season highs. In addition, Cadeau entered not having made a three since December, but hit a season-high two on the day.

Add to that, Cadeau handed out eight assists against the Canes and registered four steals.
