GASTONIA, N.C. -- Ashbrook High standout wide receiver Jheranie Boyd picked North Carolina over Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, and N.C. State in a press conference at his high school on Thursday at approximately 11:45 a.m.

The 6-2, 184-pound Boyd, who is ranked the No. 32 overall player nationally by Rivals.com and the No. 2 prospect in the state of North Carolina in the 2009 class, plays at a position of need for the Tar Heels.

UNC figures to lose as many as three or four wide receivers off its current roster after the 2008 season.

Boyd was selected to North Carolina's Shrine Bowl team last month.
