CORAL GABLES, FL – North Carolina rebounded from its home loss to Clemson by escaping The Watsco Center with a 75-72 on Saturday over Miami.

The Tar Heels led by 12 in both halves, but lost the lead completely before halftime, and then had it cut to two points with a minute remaining.

But the Tar Heels managed to hold off the Hurricanes, leaving with their 19th win over the season against five losses. They are also now 11-2 in the ACC.

Four Heels scored in double figures, led by RJ Davis’ 25 points, the eighth time this season he’s gone for at least that many in a game. Elliot Cadeau posted a career-high with 19 points, Harrison Ingram added 13, and Armando Bacot finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Miami dropped to 15-9 and 6-7.

Here are some noteworthy tidbits from Carolina’s victory over Miami:

*14 of UNC’s first 23 shots were threes and 18 if its first 30 were from the perimeter. Overall, 31 of UNC’s 59 shot attempts from the beyond the arc. It’s the only game this season Carolina has attempted more threes than shots inside the arc.

*Cadeau was 2-for-6 from the perimeter, the first time this season he’s hit more than one in a game. And, his three in the first half was his first since a win over Charleston Southern on Dec. 29. He was 0-for-9 in that span.

In addition, he had more threes today than he’d had in total since a November 24 win over Arkansas in The Bahamas. He was 4-for-25 on the season entering today, and is now 6-for-31.

*After taking a 20-8 lead, UNC was 3-for-17 while Miami was 8-for-12 as the Canes used a 29-13 run to build a 37-33 lead with 3:01 remaining in the first half.

*UNC used an 18-4 run in the second half turning a 44-40 deficit into a 58-48 lead.

*RJ Davis blocked a shot attempt by Bensley Joseph with four seconds on the shot clock and 39.6 on the game clock and UNC leading 73-71. It was his second blocked shot of the season, and second in as many games.

*Carolina is shooting just under 67 percent in its five losses, and was at 66.7 percent today. UNC was 16-for-24 on the day, but just 11-for-18 in the second half, and 2-for-5 in the last 90 seconds.

*Ingram had five rebounds Saturday, and coupled with the six he had Tuesday versus Clemson, the 11 total in a two-game span are his lowest total since getting four versus UConn and four against Kentucky in December.

*Bacot’s 15 rebounds are his most in a game since he grabbed 16 in the win at Clemson on January 6. He has been in double figures with rebounding in the last three games after going a span of five contests without grabbing at least 10.

*Armando Bacot scored just two points in the first half on three shot attempts, but he totaled eight after halftime, and recorded the 79th career double-double (11th this season). He passed Lew Alcindor, Jerry Lucas and Mel Counts (all had 78) and tied Oscar Robertson and Michael Brooks for eighth all-time in NCAA history with 79.

*Also, with his first-half block, Bacot is the first Tar Heel to have 2,000 points, 1,500 rebounds, 200 blocks and 100 steals in a career. More:

-Bacot passed Sam Perkins for third in UNC career scoring. Bacot has 2,149; Perkins scored 2,145.

- Bacot passed Tim Duncan for third place in ACC history in rebounds. Bacot has 1,581 (Duncan had 1,570).

- It was Bacot’s 26th career game with 15 or more rebounds, second most by a Tar Heel.

*UNC entered the game averaging 15.3 bench points per game versus power conference teams, but had just one in this game. It was a free throw by Zayden High.

*Jae’Lyn Withers did not attempt a shot today, and has attempted just one shot in the last four games. He has not converted a field goal since a win at BC on January 20. His seven points since then have all come at the foul line.
