UNC's 2019 Football Schedule Released

North Carolina’s 2019 football schedule was released by the ACC on Wednesday afternoon and it includes two Thursday night games and just three contests outside of the state of North Carolina.

*The Tar Heels will play just three games outside the state of North Carolina: At Virginia Tech, at Georgia Tech and at Pitt.

*The Tar Heels will play twice on Thursday nights including at Pitt, which will be the third consecutive time they’ve played at Pitt on a Thursday night. UNC won in 2015 and 2017 on Thursday nights in November at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

*UNC’s crossover opponents with the Atlantic Division are arch rival N.C. State and defending national champion Clemson.

*UNC will play Wake Forest in a nonconference game for the first time ever. This game will be in Winston-Salem with the Demon Deacons return to Kenan Stadium in 2021. The programs played each other every season from 1944 until 2004, but because of ACC expansion do not play every season, which is why the schools scheduled this series.

*UNC will face two defending conference champions: Clemson, which became the first college football team in the modern era to finish 15-0 and won the national championship, and Appalachian State, which won the Sun Belt Conference championship as well as the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

*UNC’s home game with Miami on Sept. 7 will be the earliest in a season the two programs have met.

*The Tar Heels will have three Saturdays open during the season: Sept. 14, Oct. 12 and Nov. 16.

*Only one of the 11 FBS teams on UNC’s schedule are coming off of a losing season, as Virginia Tech finished 6-7.

*Nine of the 11 FBS opponents had winning records, as Pitt finished at 7-7 and Va Tech 6-7.

*The 2018 Composite record of UNC’s 2019 FBS opponents was 92-54.

*Five of Carolina’s 11 FBS opponents for the 2019 season won at least 8 games.
