Frank Burlison of the Long Beach Press-Telegram conducted an interview with the father of UNC freshmen forwards David Wear and Travis Wear, David Wear Sr., Wednesday evening.

Mr. Wear is quoted in the report as saying that the Wears will be transferring from North Carolina now that the spring semester has come to a conclusion.
"They decided they didn't want to return to North Carolina," said Mr. Wear in Burlison's report. "When they return home (to Huntington Beach (Calif.)) we will sit down as a family and review their basketball and academic options."
The Wears, who completed their final examinations for the spring semester on Wednesday, were expected to make major contributions in 2010-2011 as sophomores in a Tar Heel frontcourt that was already losing Deon Thompson and Ed Davis.
Although each missed multiple games with various injuries, both Wears showed signs of promise at times this past season, as Travis averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.3 average minutes per game over 32 contests. He missed five games early on with an ankle sprain.
David Wear played in 27 games for UNC before severely injuring his hip, which required surgery in early March and forced him to miss the entire rest of the season, including the ACC Tournament and Carolina's run to the championship game of the postseason NIT.
He averaged 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game in 10.5 average minutes per outing.
Although information is still preliminary, it appears that the Wears may very well have taken everyone, including UNC head coach Roy Williams, by surprise on this one.
Their departure leaves the Tar Heels with only 10 scholarship players for the 2010-2011 season at the current time, and just two returning big men with legitimate playing experience---junior Tyler Zeller and sophomore John Henson.
It will be very interesting to see what Coach Williams does to handle this situation, whether it's trying to add another 2010 player at the 11th hour or if the program tries to facilitate the early enrollment of James McAdoo, as Duke did last year with Andre Dawkins when it became evident that the Blue Devils were losing Elliott Williams to transfer.
