Even though this is North Carolina linebackers coach Mike Ekeler's first year on the staff, he’s already making having an impact on the recruiting trail.

One of the prospects he’s interested in is Kane Patterson, a hard-hitting 2019 linebacker that likes to play physically, tough and just loves to attack the football.

"I will hit people and I will bring a sense of command to the team, and be a smart player," Patterson told THI.

Patterson, who stands at 6-1, and 205 pounds, plays for Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville (TN), was caught a little off guard when he picked up an offer from UNC earlier this month, and weeks later can still recall the moment when it took place, thus allowing Carolina to arrive on his radar.

"He (Ekeler) came up to my school that morning and then I ended up talking to him on the phone later that day after school, then he offered me," he said.

Relationships are going to play a big part in how things go from here on for Patterson. He is looking forward to learning more about Carolina, while starting to build some bonds with coaches along the way.

"I'm a huge fan of what is going on at North Carolina, they have great coaches, team players, and community," Patterson said.

Not only is Patterson a star football player, but he also excels on the baseball diamond. And he loves to win.

"I don't accept losing very well," he said

Due to baseball and summer workouts, he’s not sure when he will visit Chapel Hill, but wants to make the trip soon in order to pick coach Ekeler's brain and find out more about what UNC has to offer.

"I want to find out what kind of a man he is, what he stands for, and what are his plans are for me," Patterson said.

Patterson, who has made unofficial visits to Alabama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and most recently Auburn, is keeping his options open.

There are no schools that are currently standing out, and this could be the case for a while, since Patterson is taking things slow, while he does his homework on the interested programs.

So far he holds other offers from Louisville, LSU, Ole Miss, Cincinnati and Memphis.
