Adidas Gauntet Finale: Who coaches were watching

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The July basketball recruiting periods are underway, and droves of college coaches are accordingly traversing throughout the nation, scouring the landscape for future stars. Here in Spartanburg, some of the top high school prospects are on display at the Adidas Gauntlet Finale. Below, we examine which college head coaches were in attendance to observe some of their top recruiting targets.

A four-star prospect from the state of Texas, Archie was not short for college eyes on Wednesday evening. Assistants from Kansas, LSU, UCLA, USC, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Texas, Texas A&M, SMU and Oklahoma all took a look at the hard-playing wing.

Western Kentucky head coach Rick Stansbury was the one head coach in attendance for Bassey, the No. 2 prospect in the 2019 class. Other schools in the building for the five-star center included Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas and Auburn.

After Cohill released his final list of 10 last week, each of his finalists made it out to see the four-star guard. Penn State head coach Pat Chambers, Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann, Clemson head coach Brad Brownell and assistants from Pitt, Texas, Dayton, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and UNLV were each on hand for his matinee session.

Sharing a similar recruitment at this point in time, Policelli and Diallo were watched by Virginia, UMass, Hofstra, Pitt, Dayton, UMass, Rhode Island, George Washington, Rutgers, Penn State, Stony Brook and George Mason.

Leading the way for his Brookwood Bounce Elite unit, Dort drew eyes from Baylor head coach Scott Drew and one of Drew's assistants, Western Kentucky head coach Rick Stansbury, Florida head coach Mike White and assistants from Michigan State, Oregon and Texas.

Running with the Las Vegas Knicks in South Carolina, coaches made sure to get a glimpse of the top-100 junior, who's the son of former NBA guard Eddie House. UC-Irvine head coach Russell Turner along with assistants from Miami, USC, UCLA, Oregon State, Washington State and Washington were on hand.

On Wednesday, the five finalists for the top-50 Hunter - Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan, Xavier and Pittsburgh - were each in attendance. Thursday, Archie Miller, Chris Holtmann, Chris Mack, and John Beilein each caught a glimpse of the rising senior, as did Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and a UNC assistant.

Known for his versatility, competitive nature and intriguing upside, Little was watched by head coaches from Florida State, Oklahoma State, South Florida, Florida and South Carolina to go along with assistants from Georgia Tech, Georgia, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas and Duke.

The building was jam-packed on Thursday evening for top-50 center David McCormack, as head coaches from Oklahoma State, Kentucky, N.C. State and Virginia, along with assistants from North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, California, Louisville and Virginia Tech, were in attendance.

Fresh off of his decommitment from Arkansas, five-star big man Reggie Perry drew eyes from Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton, Mississippi State head coach Ben Howland, Arkansas head coach Mike Anderson and assistants from SMU, Baylor, Texas A&M and Auburn.

One of the top available guard prospects from the Midwest, Robert Phinisee was a hot name on Thursday as head coaches from Virginia, Nebraska, Indiana, Iowa State, Ohio State and Xavier, each took in the Indiana Elite product’s games, along with assistants from Nebraska, Illinois and Purdue.

The top prospect on the Adidas circuit this summer, Williamson is kicking off his final July in his hometown of Spartanburg. A slew of coaches were in attendance including Roy Williams, Frank Martin, Brad Brownell, John Calipari and assistants from UCLA, Kansas and Duke.
