Chris Collins, a 6-5, 215-pound defensive end from Benedictine College Preparatory in Richmond, VA, committed Monday afternoon to play football at North Carolina, as THI previously reported would happen.

Collins made the announcement at his school, choosing UNC over Pittsburgh, Louisville and Tennessee. Collins also had offers from Virginia Tech, Michigan State and Georgia, among many others. He becomes the fourth player to commit for the class of 2018 for the Tar Heels.

“UNC is a great college definitely for academics and football, and I’ve been taking a look at their recent success,” Collins recently told THI.

The 3-star prospect was offered by UNC in early March and immediately shot to the top of his list. He visited Chapel Hill three times in the following six weeks and realized it was where he wanted to go.

Interestingly, Collins becomes the first recruit targeted by new defensive line coach Deke Adams to commit. In fact, that relationship was a big part of Collins choosing the Tar Heels. Collins also sees UNC as a place where he can develop.

“He’s (Adams) been telling me how he sees me fitting in there and that’s always good, player development, Collins said.”

Collins has been invited to the Under Armor All-American camp and plans on attending Fedora’s Freak Show in June.
