CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina defeated Western Carolina by a score of 49-9 on Saturday afternoon at Kenan Stadium.

The Tar Heels scored touchdowns on six of their seven first-half possessions while racking u p 424 yards by halftime. Michael Carter had 73 yards and three rushing touchdowns and eight attempts. Dazz Newsome caught six passes for 82 yards and a score, plus he had a 15-yard run. Sam Howell was 20-for-23 with 287 yards and two TDs. Carolina led 42-3 at halftime.

UNC improved to 7-3 on the season with a game at Miami next weekend remaining in the regular season. The Catamounts, playing an abbreviated season as an FCS member, fell to 0-3.
