Staff Pix: Favorite All-Time UNC Football Uniform

With all of the injury talk this week, it's time for some fun. The staff offers up our favorite UNC football uniforms. (GoHeels.com)

North Carolina’s football uniforms have gone through a lot of changes in recent years, from Butch Davis ushering in the dark blue pants to the black helmets (and uniforms) and chrome helmets in the Larry Fedora era.

But last season, the Tar Heels went more back the their roots and the basics, while adopting a brand that was once solely associated with the men’s basketball program, but is now university-wide. The argyle look is here to stay.

So, with so many changes, and this topic cause for passionate debate among Carolina fans every season, it only seemed right for THI’s staff to offer our take on our favorite uniforms the Heels have worn.

Here are our picks:

Deana King

My favorite uniform was in the 90s with the Carolina Blue helmet with interlocking NC with Carolina Blue jersey with white pants with Carolina Blue stripe with dark navy stripes around it. My favorite uniform combo is Carolina Blue helmet, Carolina Blue jersey and white pants.

Matthew Hatfield

For me, I always dig the Military Appreciation aspect, so it would have to be the Carolina blue unis with the American Flag helmets from a few years ago. The all Navy blue combo uniform has a certain sparkle, particularly during night games, too.

John Gwaltney

My favorite UNC uniform combination is really one and the same in that the uniforms that were brought back this past season are my favorite look for the Tar Heels and the argyle just added to it for me as Carolina decided to make it more than just a "basketball thing". My favorite, non-special (ie. chrome helmets) look is the classic blue helmet, blue jersey and white pants.

Bruce Young

Blue Helmet, white pants, blue top (half top/tear away). Lets go back to the days of the "Space Cowboy" Mike Voight. Seeing him run into the end zone multiple times against the "Evil Empire" over in Durham, back with I was a teenager was a sight to behold.

Andrew Jones

I actually like what they wore a year ago, though I think they wore the white helmets too often. My favorite look over time has been the blue helmet with white jerseys and white pants. It’s such a clean, sharp look.
