Texas A&M TE Jake Johnson Transferring To North Carolina

Former Texas A&M tight end Jake Johnson, the younger brother of former Aggies quarterback and new North Carolina transfer Max Johnson, has committed to play for the Tar Heels.

Jake Johnson is 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, played in 12 games this past season catching 24 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns.

Johnson announced his decision via Twitter: “Excited to be a Tar Heel! Let’s Go!”

He caught four passes for 45 yards and a score in a 26-20 loss to Alabama. His season-high was six receptions versus Louisiana-Monroe. Johnson’s four TDs came versus Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Johnson was targeted 34 times this season, had one drop, had 99 yards after the catch, and his longest play went 28 yards.

In all, Johnson played 449 snaps with a high of 83 versus Miami. He consistently graded at or just below the 60.0 line with a season grade of 57.6.

Max Johnson announced two weeks ago he is transferring to UNC. Their father, Brad Johnson, was a quarterback in the NFL for 15 years. He helped lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Super Bowl title in 2002. He passed for 29,054 yards and 166 touchdowns.

Johnson has three years of eligibility remaining.
