With so much national attention given to Michael Jordan's amazing career inspired by an ongoing documentary on ESPN, THI Publisher Andrew Jones iasked longtime ACC writer Barry Jacobs to discuss his time covering Jordan as a player at North Carolina.
Jacobs tells some stories about when he saw early greatness in Jordan, the Dean Smith effect, how Jordan assimilated when he arrived in Chapel Hill, his growth as a player but also a young man, why Jacobs doesn’t think Dan Dakich deserves so much credit for shutting down Jordan in his final college game, and so many other interesting things about the greatest basketball player of all time.
Jacobs graduated from Duke in 1972 and has been writing about athletics since, with a heavy emphasis on ACC basketball. He has written five books, 14 basketball annuals and among the positions he held was with the New York Times for 20 years.
