Jefferson Boaz is a highly accomplished highs school athlete who is heading to North Carolina to begin a football career whenever the school is once again open.

Between now and then, Boaz is working out on his own and with Stephen Gosnell, a teammate at East Surry High School and future teammate at UNC. Gosnell, by the way, enrolled at Carolina in January but has been back home since school closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Boaz, who is from Pilot Mountain, NC, is a 3-star prospect who also had offers from Louisville, Virginia, Colorado, Virginia Tech and many others.

THI caught up with the state’s Offensive Player of the Year to find out how he’s doing and preparing to be a Tar Heel:

THI: How have things been going with you and your family during the coronavirus shutdown, is everyone healthy and okay?

BOAZ: “Yes, we are all good.”

THI: How much working out are you able to do and what have you been focusing on?

BOAZ: “I’ve still been able to do my normal stuff. I’ll workout with weights on Mondays. Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I throw and run.”

THI: Have you and Stephen Gosnell been able to work out together?

BOAZ: “Yes, we throw together.”

THI: How often are you in contact with UNC coaches, and are they monitoring your progress or anything like that?

BOAZ: “Yes, they are. They are mostly just checking in about two times a week.”

THI: The players that don't enroll in January usually do so in June for summer school, but on-campus classes for the summer have been cancelled, but are you going to enroll online and at least get your course work started?

BOAZ: “They haven’t told me yet.”

THI: What kind of things are you working on during your workouts?

BOAZ: “I’m working on my accuracy and distance. I’m working on getting faster and quicker. I’m doing a lot or power cleans and squats.”

THI: If things return to normal this summer, do you have any special plans or things you want to do before enrolling at UNC?

BOAZ: “I think me and my family are taking a trip cross country. We just don’t know where yet.”
