Class of 2019 wide receiver Emery Simmons of Village Christian Academy (NC) was invited to North Carolina this past weekend by Tar Heels defensive coordinator John Papuchis and veteran wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer to participate in the program’s Junior Day festivities.

"I really enjoyed myself, they were really excited to have us there and I liked that," the 6-2, 185 pounder told THI.

Thus far, Simmons has picked up offers from N.C. State and Indiana, with strong interest coming from UNC and several other programs.

Tar Heel Illustrated reached out to Simmons on Saturday to discuss his visit:

THI: During your trip how, much of the university did you get to see and what did you think?

Simmons: I only got to see a little bit of it, but with the little bit that I saw I was impressed.

THI: What did you think of the football facilities at UNC?

Simmons: I thought they were top of the line and they looked amazing.

THI: Was this your first recruiting visit to Carolina, and what do you think of Coach Brewer and the overall program after being on campus?

Simmons: I came during the season to a home game when they played Louisville. Coach Brewer is a real cool coach, he gets the players hype and seems like he really cares about his players. The program cares also, they expect the best from their players and they hold them to a higher standard. That stuck out a lot to me.

THI: While chatting with Coach Brewer, what did he mention he liked about you at this point in the process?

Simmons: He said he liked how strong I looked on film and that I'm a real humble guy.

THI: How was the basketball game, and what did you think of the whole environment at UNC?

Simmons: I think that it was pretty good. I really enjoyed myself, their fan base is really supportive and really cheer you on.

THI: What would an offer from North Carolina mean to you?

Simmons: A lot. They are one of my top favorite schools.

THI: I see you have offers from NC. State and Indiana, other than those programs, where are you looking to visit going forward heading into the summer.

Simmons: I plan on visiting Virginia Tech, UNC and South Carolina.
