The football season is here for North Carolina, as the Tar Heels begin fall camp Wednesday with the first of 21 practices before getting into game-week mode for the September 2 opener versus South Carolina in Charlotte.
UNC is coming off a 9-5 season that included a spot in the ACC championship game and Holiday Bowl, both losses to Clemson and Oregon, respectively, with the defeat to the Ducks coming by just one point. It capped a four-game slide to finish the season for a team that was 9-1 and ranked as high as No. 13 in the AP poll and CFP rankings.
The Tar Heels return seven starters on both sides of the ball, though including late-season starters Will Hardy and Marcus Allen moves the number to 16. In addition, UNC welcomed several transfers that are pegged to step right in and start, notably wide receivers Tez Walker and Nate McCollum, and cornerback Alijah Huzzie.
