Class of 2019 wide receiver Emery Simmons of South View High School in Fayetteville, NC, was pleased to hear that North Carolina was officially extending him an scholarship offer.

"It was a blessing being offered by UNC," the 6-3, 190 pounder told THI. "Coach (Luke) Paschall presented it to me."

Simmons, who is rated as a 3-star prospect, made the decision to commit to Indiana two months ago over offers from North Carolina State and East Carolina.

Despite his pledge to Indiana, Simmons still holds his feelings toward North Carolina close, and is hoping to build stronger relationships with the coaches while learning how he’d fit in with UNC’s spread offense.

"The whole coaching staff is great, they really want the best for their players and for the program," he said. "They see me coming in and working hard and being a problem for other teams as soon as I get there."

As a playmaker, what does the staff specifically like about him?

"They like my ball skills and how strong I am with my speed," he said.

Simmons is unsure of what the next step in his recruitment will be, he made a visit to Chapel Hill two months ago for a junior day, and is hopeful on getting back for a closer look.

"I can possibly go back, we have to see what happens in the future," he replied." I just want to keep in contact and see what happens later on."

While partitioning what’s important to him Simmons is also preparing to have a successful senior year.

"I think it's going to be a good year, just need to work on somethings and I just plan to go out to be the best I can be," he said. "Hopefully carry our team to a state championship."

THI's Thouhgts...

A chance for a flip is possible here, but it will depend on Pachall building a relationship and the Tar Heels showing some offensive firepower in the fall. Having a lot of very talented young receivers in the program could work against UNC, though.
