ATLANTA – North Carolina trailed for more than 37 minutes in its game versus Kentucky on Saturday ATLANTA – Turnovers and poor rebounding did in No. 9 North Carolina on Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic at State Farm Arena.
UNC fell behind early to No. 14 Kentucky, taking a brief lead late in the contest, but didn’t make plays down the stretch in an 87-83 loss.
Carolina led for a total of 16 seconds, at 72-71 but the Wildcats took the lead for good with 4:59 on the clock. The Heels had one final chance to tie the game in the waning seconds, but an errant pass by freshman Elliot Cadeau to veteran Cormac Ryan that hit him in the back essentially sealed UNC’s fate.
RJ Davis led the Heels in scoring with 27 points, while Ryan added 20, and Harrison Ingram chipped in 10 as the only Tar Heels in double figures.
UNC dropped to 7-3 overall and UK improved to 8-2. Carolina next plays Wednesday night versus No. 11 Oklahoma in the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte.
