2020 DB In Awe Of UNC's Offer

Josh Moten, a class of 2020 defensive back from National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, MD, was caught off guard when he picked up an offer from North Carolina this past week.

"My coach told me, UNC defensive coordinator John Papuchis extended the offer," he told THI."I thought the evaluation period was over with, so for them to reach out and offer had me in awe."

The 6-1, 167-pound athlete so far has also received offers from South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Wake Forest and Baylor among others.

Tar Heel Illustrated caught up with Moten to discuss his recent offer from North Carolina.

Here is the interview:

THI: Are you familiar with UNC?

Moten: No, but my coach has spoke highly of them.

THI: Now that your sophomore season is complete, what are some of the strengths you have brought to the table thus far in your two years in high school?

Moten: Being a vocal and physical leader. I'm a ball hawk, my coach is also my defensive backs coach and he stresses technique. He wants us to backpedal properly and transition properly and have great eyes. Knowing when and why to jump routes, as you can see on my film, I show all of that. Coach always tell us to have that swagger that you should be pissed off if a quarterback even attempts to throw the all your way. So if he does throw it, ‘make him pay.’"

THI: Have you considered checking out Chapel Hill?

Moten: I plan on going to visit in the next few weeks.

THI: Upon arriving on campus, what are some initial things you want to see?

Moten: Just the campus, how the university supports football. I also want to see the facilities and like to talk to some of the players and get their feedback. These days you can't attend a school because of the coaches, because you never know what will happen. But the staff Coach Larry Fedora has is amazing, I hope they are around when it's my time to come.

THI: Is Cornerback the only position you play?

Moten: I also play kick return and punt return, and in certain packages on defense I play corner, nickel and free safety.
