UNC is already making progress with 2021 OL Austin Barber as his recruitment begins to pick up steam.

Austin Barber, a 6-foot-6, 314-pound offensive lineman from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, FL, is among the latest group of prospects who recently gained an offer from North Carolina.

Barber, who is in the class of 2021, was on campus for the Tar Heels’ 38-31 loss to Virginia, which provided him a nice look inside the program.

“The OL Coach, Stacey Searels, offered me and it was a really big surprise,” he told THI. “I’m pretty familiar with coach Searles and the UNC program, he said he likes the big ugly guys and he said I fit that well.”

The trip gave Barber a glimpse on an offer the UNC football field.

“I thought the game was great,” he said. “The atmosphere is crazy good.”

He has yet to speak with UNC head coach Mack Brown but is hoping things change soon.

As Barber’s junior season comes to an end, what are his strengths at the moment?

“I have fast feet and I am a very good run blocker and I’m nasty,” he said.

Barber played his first two years at Yulee (FL) High School before transferring this past summer to Trinity, a program that currently has a few seniors committed to ACC schools and annually sends players to Power 5 programs. Current UNC senior linebacker Dominique Ross played at Trinity.

Aside from UNC, he has taken visits to Florida, South Florida, Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic.

Also offering Barber along with the Tar Heels have been South Florida and Coastal Carolina.
