Class of 2019 free safety Dean Ferguson was one of the many prospects in attendance at North Carolina’s Junior Day this past weekend.

The 3-star playmaking defensive back from Potomac Falls in Suffolk, VA has seen his recruiting skyrocket after a very strong junior campaign. He amassed 84 tackles, 11 forced fumbles, 6 tackles for loss and 6 pass deflections.

Ferguson reports offers from Maryland, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, among others. Despite not having an offer from North Carolina yet, Ferguson is high on the Tar Heels and everything they have to offer.

He recently discussed his visit this past weekend with THI. That interview can be found below:

How did your JR day visit go?

“The visit went really well. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.”

What coaches did you speak with and what did they have to say?

“I play safety so I’m lucky that my recruiting coach is my position coach in Coach (Tommy) Thigpen. He is a great teacher, we talked about defensive schemes with an emphasis on the mental aspect of football.”

What did you think about the new facilities? Such as the new practice field they are moving into as well as the stadium changes?

“That’s all great stuff, it’s really exciting. I won’t be basing my decision off of facilities because everyone has nice facilities. The facilities would be a bonus, but I’m primarily focusing on the team and the university. Specifically the academics, player to coach relations, and the core values of the team.”

What was the best part of the visit?

“The family atmosphere and the overall love and passion everyone had for UNC.”

What other schools have you visited and plan on visiting this spring?

“Auburn and Michigan State are the next two programs on the schedule.”

Where does UNC stand after this weekend?

“They are definitely near the top of my list.”
