Jared Wilson, a 3-star offensive guard who attends West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, NC, announced Friday afternoon he will play football at North Carolina.

Wilson, who is 6-foot-3 and 345 pounds, originally committed to Georgia in November but decommitted in February following a visit to UNC for one of its junior days. Interestingly, Ohio State and Alabama have offered him over the last month, but Wilson’s trend toward Mack Brown and the Tar Heels led to him finally making public his decision.

“Coach Mack Brown, Coach (Phil) Longo, and Coach (Stacy) Searles did a great job recruiting me,” Wilson told THI. “One main factor is I have three younger brothers and I want to stay close and watch them grow up.”

Another factor is Carolina’s success within its own state, plus one of its recent commits was on Wilson hard to become a Tar Heel.

“I would say yes,” the class of 2021 standout said. “Keeshawn (Silver) recruited me.”

Wilson has known for a while he might end up in Chapel Hill, so there really is no landmark moment where the Carolina blue light went on.

“I can’t remember when I decided, but it was lots of talks with my mom and it just happened,” he said. “And what Coach Mack Brown is doing is incredible turning that team around. That’s what he does and he is a winner.”

Wilson is rated the No. 32 prospect in the state of North Carolina and the 14th prospect from the class of 2021 to commit to the Tar Heels. Thirteen are from the state of North Carolina.

Deana Says...

“Jared Wilson is a great pick-up for Coach Mack Brown because he is another in-state kid and comes from a high school program known to produce some great talent. The former Georgia commit has great size for an offensive lineman. He is a bulldozer and will be huge in the Tar Heels’ versatile offensive attack.”
