Bryson Nesbit, a 3-star tight end who attends South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC, has announced he will play football at North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon.

Nesbit is rated the No. 15 overall prospect in the state of North Carolina and is No. 18 nationally at his position. Nesbit chose UNC among a top five that included Virginia Tech, South Carolina, UCLA and Ole Miss.

Nesbit has been trending UNC’s way for some time, especially once the 7-on-7 season this past summer. He played in an event that included the Carolina Stars, which was loaded with future Tar Heels Drake Maye, Dontavius Nash and Gavin Blackwell, plus J.J. Jones’ team was in the same tournament.

The other committed Heels focused on Nesbit that day and their collective relationships have grown since. The other future Heels have been saying for some time reeling in Nesbit was a priority.

“I have a good relationship with (tight ends) coach (John) Lilly and coach Mack Brown,” Nesbit recently told THI. “Whenever I think of UNC, I think of great people.”

His relationship with Lilly has continued growing to where it’s even been tutorial.

“I send him my workout videos all the time,” Nesbit said. “He helps correct my form sometimes and my footwork and all that type of stuff.”

Nesbit gives Mack Brown’s program 18 commitments for this cycle, and with the NCAA giving every athlete this season back, THI’s understanding is UNC is very likely to stay at 18 for this class.

Currently, the class is ranked No. 16 in the nation, but that isn’t factoring in Nesbit, and it should be noted that the only school with fewer commits that’s rated ahead of the Tar Heels is Oklahoma at No. 14. Excluding Notre Dame, which is an ACC football member for only this season, UNC’s class ranks third in the conference.

Nesbit is also a basketball player, and as of this writing, it's uncertain if he will enroll eearly or play his senior season of basketball.

Deana's Take...

"A commitment from Bryson Nesbit is huge for the Tar Heels because he is another highly ranked in-state team and from the talent-rich Charlotte. Nesbit reminds me of former UNC and NFL tight ends Alge Crumpler and Eric Ebron mixed in."
