North Carolina’s staff has recently zeroed in on 4-star tight end Louis Hansen, who attends St. Sebastians Country Day in Needham, MA.

The 6-foot-5, 222 pounder is also the No. 114 overall prospect in the nation in the class of 2021, the No. 3 prospect at his position and No. 2 overall prospect in the state of Massachusetts.

He recently picked up an offer from North Carolina when tight ends coach Tim Brewster extended him, and ever since he’s been working to build a strong bond.

“The offer came from coach Brewster, it was a bit of a surprise because it was actually the first time we spoke,” he told THI. “But he was very confident in his evaluation and seemed to be very confident in me which I really appreciated.”

Despite only knowing Brewster for a short time, the relationship is already strong.

“Coach Brewster is awesome, as far as tight end coaches go, I think his resume is up there for one of the best,” Hansen said. “He did mention that they plan on building a winning culture down at UNC focused on good kids who love to compete.”

An interesting timing of events led to Hansen visiting Chapel Hill the day after the Tar Heels’ 38-22 victory over Georgia Tech two weeks ago.

“I visited, it was actually great timing,” he said. “I had set up a visit to Duke and they ended up offering that week so I made sure to check it out while I was down there. They liked my ball skills and traits as a receiving tight end and my willingness to block.

“And UNC is a great school with a program certainly on the upswing. And I definitely love the weather in North Carolina compared to up here in Massachusetts.”

Does Hansen plan on returning to Carolina?

“Absolutely,” he replied. “The facilities were just incredible, from the locker room to the weight room to the stadium everything was awesome.”

Hansen’s junior season has been so-so from a team perspective, but he’s doing well.

“We had a tough start with back to back loses, but I’m proud of the way we’ve responded beating two good teams to get back to .500,” he said. “Personally, I think it’s going great I’m getting very comfortable at the tight end position, I just hope we can keep rolling and finish the season strong.”

Other than UNC and Duke, he has only visited Boston College this fall. He hasn’t had many opportunities to take a lot of game-day visits because most of his team’s games are on Saturdays.

Hansen holds other offers from Georgia, LSU, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Penn State and Michigan among others.
