CORAL GABLES, FL – The last several minutes of North Carolina’s 75-72 win at Miami looked more like a team trying to give away the game than seal it.

Yet, the Tar Heels still held on for the victory, fending off multiple last-minute attempts by the Hurricanes.

Carolina led by 12 early in the game but allowed a 29-13 Miami eruption before trailing at the intermission. And Carolina led by 12 twice in the second half, including 68-56 following an Elliot Cadeau 3-pointer with 7:42 remaining.

But the Canes would go away and the Heels couldn’t pull away.

The nail-biting final 40 seconds saw the following occur:

*UNC’s RJ Davis blocked a runner attempted by Bensley Joseph with 4.0 seconds left on the shot clock and 39.6 on the game clock.

*UNC’s attempted inbound pass by Cormac Ryan was stolen, and the Canes ended with an inbound under their own basket. But Armando Bacot smothered Norchad Omier’s attempted layup with 30 seconds and then grabbed his 15th rebound of the game.

*Harrison Ingram hit one of two free throws with 24 seconds remaining for a 74-71 lead.

*Looking to tie, Miami got the ball in guard Nijel Pack’s hands. And although UNC didn’t switch much in the game, Bacot did switch out on the 5-foot-11 Pack, challenging his 24-foot attempted three that missed.

*Ryan made one of two free throws for a 75-71 lead with 8.0 seconds left.

*With 2.4 seconds remaining, Miami’s Wooga Poplar hit a free throw before intentionally missing the second. The ball appeared to go out off of UNC, but the officials called a lane violation on the Hurricanes. Ryan got the inbound and dribbled out the clock.

Four Heels scored in double figures, led by RJ Davis’ 25 points, the eighth time this season he’s gone for at least that many in a game. Elliot Cadeau posted a career-high with 19 points, Harrison Ingram added 13, and Armando Bacot finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

UNC improved to 19-5 overall and 11-2 in the ACC. Miami dropped to 15-9 and 6-7.
