North Carolina native Antonio Williams has decided to transfer from Ohio State back to his home state where he will attend UNC and play football for the Tar Heels.
Williams, who is 5-11 and 210 pounds, was a 4-star running back out of North Stanley H.S. in New London, NC. He originally committed to UNC before flipping to Wisconsin. He settled on Ohio State.
Below is what he tweeted out Monday afternoon:
Here is his statement from Twitter:
"The Ohio State University has been a place that allowed me to grow tremendously as a man, make relationships that will last a lifetime, and reach some platforms that very few can say they have reached.
"I thank Coach Meyer for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Buckeye Family, and I want to than Coach Tony Alford for being who he had been to me. A father figure away from home, he provided me with guidance that very few are able to provide. For the RB room at Ohio State, as your leader, I thank you guys for being my brothers away from home, being my family.
"When things weren’t going great for me, I could always fall back on my brothers and everything would be alright. Everyone that was involved with me from the coaches, to teammates, to classmates, I thank you. As individuals we set goals for ourselves, some things are obtainable from the paths we choose, and some things aren’t. Though being at Ohio State provided me with the right path to reach those goals, the timing for me to be at OSU wasn’t the most ideal.
"With that being said, following the end of the this semester, I will be transferring to the University of North Carolina. I’m extremely excited to be joining the Tar Heel family but also sad to leave my brothers at OSU. At the end of the day, this was a decision based on multiple things, from family, to having particular opportunities. I hope to bring a surplus of success to UNC and am ecstatic about coming home and representing NC once again! Again, thank you for everything Ohio State, I can’t wait to begin this journey at UNC. #GDTBATH"
Williams told THI the following after he released his statement.
"I am excited to be coming home and helping take UNC back to the top," stated Williams. "I'm not 100% sure when I will be eligible to play."
