North Carolina 2020 signee Cayden Baker is working and ready to finally be a Tar Heel.
The 6-foot-6, 285-pounder is a 3-star offensive tackle out Fort Myers, FL. Baker had over 10 offers from schools across the country before committing to UNC on Oct. 27, 2019, and signing his letter of intent on Dec. 18.
Baker had an impressive prep career as he was voted first team all-district and All-Southwest Florida as a senior. He was also a Southwest Florida Player of the Year nominee.
THI caught up with Baker to discuss what he’s been doing during the COVID-19 pandemic and to look ahead to when he arrives on campus:
THI: How have things been going with you and your family during the coronavirus shutdown and is everyone healthy and okay?
BAKER: “We’re all doing great. Really just staying home and hanging out at the neighbors pool.”
THI: How much working out are you able to do and what have you been focusing on?
BAKER: “I’ve been working out in my neighbors garage every day for two and a half hours. I’m seeing a lot of gains and we’re just having fun pushing each other.”
THI: How often are you in contact with UNC coaches and are they monitoring your progress or anything like that?
BAKER: “I talk to them a lot, about a couple times a week.”
THI: What is your height and weight now and what weight do you plan on being when you eventually arrive in Chapel Hill?
BAKER: “Six-foot-6, 285 as of right now and I plan on getting as big as I can while remaining healthy.”
THI: The players that don't enroll in January usually do so in June for summer school, but all on-campus classes for the summer have been cancelled. Are you going to enroll online and at least get your course work started?
BAKER: “I’m not sure yet. I’ll end up doing whatever is recommended.”
THI: If things return to normal this summer, do you have any special plans or things you want to do before enrolling at UNC?
BAKER: “No. I’ll just be happy to see these times end. I know it’s very hard for everyone and the families of those involved, so I keep them in my prayers.”
