Note: UNC signed 25 prospects in its football class of 2020, but 13 enrolled in January, so THI is reaching out to the other 12 to see how things are going as they prepare to enroll whenver the coronavirus shtiatuon begins to clear up.

Lee County (NC) High School class of 2020 defensive back Jayden Chalmers found himself squarely on the North Carolina radar last summer when he was invited to participate in its elite showtime camp.

The camp provided the 6-foot, 168-pound Chalmers an opportunity to showcase his ability to shut down some of the best wide receivers in attendance.

The staff was impressed with his performance and offered him a scholarship on the spot, and he committed a few days later before morphing into one of the class of 2020’s loudest recruiters for the program. His efforts helped UNC land 4-star defensive end Desmond Evans.

Tar Heel Illustrated caught up with Chalmers to talk more about the pandemic occurring and his future at UNC.

Here is the interview:

CHALMERS: “It’s been going good, been staying in the house and working out.”

CHALMERS: “Pushups and lifting cinder blocks.”

THI: How often are you in contact with UNC coaches, and are they monitoring your progress or anything like that?

CHALMERS: “Yessir, I’ve been talking to coaches a lot.”

THI: What is your height and weight now, and what weight do you plan on being when you eventually arrive in Chapel Hill?

CHALMERS: “6-foot, 168 and they weight I plan on being when I get there is 185.”

THI: The players that don't enroll in January usually do so in June for summer school, but on-campus classes for the summer have been cancelled, but are you going to enroll online and at least get your course work started?

CHALMERS: “Yessir, I will.”
