Note: UNC signed 25 prospects in its football class of 2020, but 13 enrolled in January, so THI is reaching out to the other 12 to see how things are going as they prepare to enroll whenver the coronavirus shtiatuon begins to clear up.
Myles Murphy, a 4-star prospect out of Dudley High School in Greensboro, NC, committed to North Carolina over South Carolina last summer in an intense recruiting battle, offering yet another glimpse into what Mack Brown was set to accomplish with in-state recruiting.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Murphy spent his senior season spearheading one of the best defensive lines in the state alongside class of 2021 4-star defensive tackle Payton Page.
Here is our interview with Murphy to discuss how he’s adjusted to this unfortunate situation and what’s next for him:
THI: How have things been going with you and your family during the coronavirus shutdown, is everyone healthy and okay?
MURPHY: “Yeah, they are good.”
THI: How much working out are you able to do and what have you been focusing on?
MURPHY: “I’ve been going to my school’s field running a lot of drills and doing things around the house also and focusing on the upcoming season.”
THI: How often are you in contact with UNC coaches, and are they monitoring your progress or anything like that?
MURPHY: “Yes, I talk to them every day. Also, I can play both inside or on the edge, it really doesn’t matter.”
THI: What is your height and weight now, and what weight do you plan on being when you eventually arrive in Chapel Hill?
MURPHY: “Right now I’m 6-foot-5, 300, trying to drop more when I get there to at least 285.”
THI: The players that don't enroll in January usually do so in June for summer school, but on-campus classes for the summer have been cancelled, but are you going to enroll online and at least get your course work started?
MURPHY: “Yes, I would and probably want to do sports communication.”
