Davis to return for sophomore season

Chapel Hill --- University of North Carolina freshman Ed Davis, who scored 11 points and had a team-high eight rebounds in the national championship game win over Michigan State, will return to the Tar Heels for the 2009-10 season, the 6-10 forward confirmed this afternoon.
"I am returning to North Carolina for my sophomore season and will not apply for the NBA Draft," says Davis. "I love being a student at Carolina and playing with my teammates for Coach (Roy) Williams. I'd like to play in the NBA someday, but my family and I don't think I'm ready to take that step."

"I'm glad this decision is behind me so I can focus on the rest of the school year and get ready to be a better player next season."
Davis wished to end the speculation regarding his status for next season.
"We are ecstatic with Ed's and his family's decision to remain at North Carolina," says Williams. "I truly enjoy coaching him. We always try to recommend what is best for each individual young man. Ed's family and I did discuss his options after the season and we are happy that he will continue to be a Tar Heel."
The Richmond, Va., native averaged 6.7 points and 6.6 rebounds for the season and 8.2 points and 5.5 boards in the six NCAA Tournament wins. He led the Tar Heels in blocked shots with 65.
