One of the best regions in North Carolina for football recruiting is Cleveland County, which is located about an hour west of Charlotte. The region has sent several kids to the collegiate level over the years, but lately has been unkind to the Tar Heels. Many recruits have spurned the UNC to sign with the likes of Clemson, Florida, Virginia Tech and N.C. State among others.

New Carolina Coach Mack Brown is determined to change that and he’s making strides, as the Tar Heels have given out several offers to that region’s young prospects

One of those standouts is 2021 linebacker Dameon “Day Day” Wilson out of Kings Mountain High School. Wilson has offers from UNC, Charlotte, Syracuse and South Carolina and is expecting to get more as his recruitment plays out.

Wilson, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound prospect was one of several recruits that was on campus this weekend and took in UNC’s big win over ranked Florida State.

“It was great, meeting the new coaches, interacting with other prospects, and a basketball game to top it off,” said Wilson. “The atmosphere was great. I also love the new indoor facility.

Wilson was impressed with meeting the Tar Heels’ staff especially Brown and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman.

“I’m glad I got to meet Coach Brown,” Wilson said. “He’s a great coach and a legend to UNC. Coach Bateman is a smart, defensive-minded coach.”

The Tar Heels are recruiting Wilson as an inside linebacker.

As far a more visits on the horizon, Wilson says that he plans to come back.

“Yes, I will be back on the weekend of March 9 for the Duke-UNC hoops matchup,” he said.
