Derek Dixon was not expecting an offer from North Carolina. In fact, he wasn't even expecting the initial phone calls that came from Jeff Lebo and Hubert Davis just after the live period that concluded in late May.

The two Tar Heel coaches along with Brad Frederick watched Dixon several times during that third EYBL session in Indianapolis. THI noticed them overlooking the floor that Saturday afternoon when Team Takeover took on CP3 based out of Charlotte.

Dixon finished with 18 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard went 6 for 8 from the field, and knocked down all four of his three-point tries in the 93-77 win.

Team Takeover sits atop the 17U EYBL division with a 14-1 record going into Peach Jam. Dixon has been an important piece. He averages 15.6 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

North Carolina was the last team to offer on May 20. It joined Iowa, Kansas State, Maryland, Miami, Penn State, Pitt, Providence, Syracuse, Villanova, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Xavier, and a couple more mid-majors.

Dixon seems to have a regional recruitment that is based along the East Coast among a couple of high major programs.

He spoke to Tar Heel Illustrated Tuesday night about all of this and more which included news that he broke to us about an important visit coming up in September.
