Don Chapman, a 3-star safety from Lincoln High School in San Diego, CA, has committed to play football at North Carolina, he confirmed to THI on Sunday night.

Chapman was previously committed to Colorado but decommitted in November and then committed to Washington State before decommiting in December. He took an official visit to UNC two weeks ago where he immediately started developing relationships with UNC’s defensive coaches.

“I spent time with defensive coordinator coach Bateman and defensive backs coach Dre Bly and many more, they are recruiting me as a corner,” he told THI.

In particular, Chapman and Bly really hit it off.

“He’s a great dude (with) high intensity and great attitude,” Chapman said. “And he’s driven to do right by his players and his fellow coaches. He has a lot of passion for the game and we talked about it a little bit, but he didn’t talk a lot about his past but more about what he wants to do in the future.”

Chapman also had offers from Southern Cal, Miami, LSU, Arizona and Washington State, among many others.

But Chapman had a good feel about UNC right away. He fit in with everything that would encompass going to school and playing football for the Tar Heels.

“The fact that they want to win big, not only on the field but in life as a team,” he said. “It’s a brotherhood and a true family feel.”
