Senior defensive tackle Ethan Farmer has been cleared to play, a source close to the UNC football program has confirmed to THI. Farmer's status had been uncertain because of an academic question, and until not long ago, UNC was completely in the dark regarding his future.
Farmer has practiced all month with the Tar Heels, but his repetitions in practice were somewhat limited so the staff could get other players ready just in case Farmer wasn't cleared. The result was added reps for freshmen such as Tyler Powell, Nazair Jones and others. which should benefit the team moving forward.
Farmer is the only Tar Heel defensive lineman on the depth chart who has started a game there in college. Farmer (6-foot-3, 295 pounds) started all 13 games last season and registered 30 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss of yardage and forcing one fumble.
