Fedora Wednesday Post Practice Interview

CHAPEL HILL – UNC football coach Larry Fedora met with the media following Wednesday’s practice to discuss his team’s preparation for Saturday’s home game versus The Citadel, but the coach also addressed a question about LSU’s interest in him.

As for his defense’s recall from two weeks ago when it prepared for Georgia Tech, which runs the triple option as The Citadel does, Fedora said the players have had a good week, though there are some differences between the Yellow Jackets and Bulldogs.

“Another day, it was better,” Fedora said. “But still, they run the triple option, but they don’t run Georgia Tech’s offense, they run their own version of the triple option. So, there’s quite a few things that they do that’s different from what Georgia Tech does. It’s not like we just take the Georgia Tech game plan and go in there and play against it.”

Is one of the differences that Georgia Tech passes more, and it attempts more long balls?

“They throw the ball effectively, I don’t know how many times a game, I think they’ve thrown 90-something passes in 10 games, so it’s not a lot,” the coach said. “But when they do, it’s pretty effective.”

With the Tar Heels having lost three games now, does the staff speak to the team about new goals?

“Our focus is just really being 1-0, we just want to be 1-0,” Fedora replied. “If we take care of being 1-0 we’ll be okay. That’s it. We’re not going any further than that, just being 1-0.”

A report Tuesday in the New Orleans Times-Picayune regarding LSU’s search for a new head football coach included Fedora as one of five candidates, though a few reports Wednesday suggest he’s among the top three candidates.

Fedora was asked how he handles the rumors when his name is being floated.

“I don’t address it because I can’t remember a year that I’ve been a head coach that there hasn’t been some kind of job speculation,” he said. “That’s why I (decided) a long time ago I’m not going to talk about all of the speculation because you’d be talking about it all the time. Because anybody can put anything on the Internet, you know how that goes, and then everybody wants to know. It’s a waste of time talking about it, it really is.”
