Havelock's Edmonds Could Be Next In Line

Kamarro Edmonds might be the next great Havelock player as well as the next Ram to eventually play at UNC.
Kamarro Edmonds might be the next great Havelock player as well as the next Ram to eventually play at UNC.

Kamarro Edmonds, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound athlete is next in the long line of talented players to come out of North Carolina 3AA powerhouse Havelock High School, a program that has been really good to the Tar Heels over the past few years.

North Carolina currently has two former Rams on the football roster, and offensive lineman Avery Jones and wide receiver/defensive back Welton Spottsville are mentors to Edmonds. So naturally, they’re trying to lure the 3-star class of 2021 standout to Carolina.

“I'm very close with both of them, obviously they would like to see me at UNC,” Edmonds told THI. “But they have told me to enjoy the process and choose the school that is the best fit for me.”

Aside from the Heels, Edmonds has courted offers from the likes of South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, N.C. State and East Carolina.

Speaking of Mack Brown’s squad, Edmonds has been building strong bonds with the coaches since being offered last month.

“I thought I had a pretty good camp, it was one of the first camps this offseason that I competed at running back,” he said.

Tar Heel Illustrated caught up with Edmonds to further discuss his overall camp performance and his thoughts on the current state of the program.

Here is the rest of the interview:

THI: How would you describe your camp performance?

EDMONDS: “I think I did well being I had been working at a DB all offseason. Coach Brown was cool, he was joking with my dad a bit about him being a Southern Cal fan and told me that I looked good out there at camp.”

THI: What are your thoughts on the UNC new coaching staff and what coaches do you have the strongest relationship with at this time?

EDMONDS: “I like what they have done out there so far, they have a lot of coaches that believe in each other and coach Brown. They have a lot of energy and I like that about them, and they are honest with me on where I need improvements. Right now, I think I have the strongest relationships with Coach (Robert) Gillespie and Coach (Tim) Cross. “

THI: What position are they recruiting you for ?

EDMONDS: “They offered me as a running back, but I also talked to the defensive coach, but I'm willing to play wherever needed.”

THI: During your campus tour, what did you think of the facilities and everything the program had to offer.

EDMONDS: “I thought the facilities were awesome, but they were doing renovations while I was there so I didn't get to see everything. I thought the student living area was very nice also. I liked all the education options they give and available tutoring.”
