Heinz looking around, but is still a Tar Heel

North Florida Christian quarterback Roger HeinzClick Here to view this Link. made an early commitment to UNC back in June of this year.

Heinz originally committed to UNC after visiting for a football camp. He said the two main reasons he committed to the Tar Heels was "the beauty of the campus" and he also said "the coaches won me over."

Heinz loved the look and feel of the UNC campus. He said that because his dad owns his own landscaping business, it made him even more aware of how beautiful the campus actually was.

Heinz said that the coaching staff really made him feel at home. Heinz had visited several other campuses prior to his visit to UNC in June, but when he returned back home to Tallahassee, he told his dad: "that is the place for me." Heinz and his parents discussed UNC and as a group they decided it was the time to go ahead and commit.

Fast-forward to today … Heinz says that he is taking a break now from the whole recruiting process for two weeks. Why does he have to take a break from the process? Well, because several schools are still heavily recruiting him. Florida State and Cincinnati are pursuing Heinz the hardest at this time.

Heinz says that he still "100% committed to UNC," but he does plan on looking around as a "back-up plan." Heinz mentioned that the Heels were still in the race for Chris Leak.

"I'm not afraid of Leak, that's not it," Heinz said. "I just want to have my bases covered. He is considered one of the best, if not the best, quarterback in the country."

Heinz did reiterate that he is still firm to UNC and that he loves the school and does not plan on decommitting.

"I am fully committed to UNC,” said Heinz.

The Tar Heel staff remains in close contact with Heinz. Gunter Brewer, his primary recruiter, has stopped by his home twice already this month. Offensive coordinator Gary Tranquill is set to stop by the Heinz household next week. Head coach Bunting is also planning to visit Heinz in the coming weeks.

Heinz has now set up his official visit date for Jan. 10; he set the date on Brewer's last visit to his home.
