His Stock Growing, 3-Star WR Cobbs Wants UNC Offer

Brian Cobbs is definitely ascending.

The 3-star 2018 wide receiver recently added West Virginia to his growing offer sheet and it’s possible Stanford may not be far behind.

Virginia, N.C. State and Wake Forest have also offered the Lorton, VA, wide receiver, whose father, Duffy, started on Penn State’s 1986 national title team and played a few years with the New England Patriots.

North Carolina hasn’t offered Cobbs, but the communication has been consistent and Cobbs is holding out hope an offer from the Tar Heels will come.

“Coach (John) Papuchis came by my school the other day and they are sort of confused, Cobbs said. “They don’t know if they want a shorter, quicker receiver or like a tall lengthy receiver, and I’m kind of like in the middle. Coach (Gunter) Brewer is still interested in me and he’ll be by my school in a couple of weeks.”

If UNC did extend an offer to Cobbs, where would the Heels rank among his offers?

“That would probably be No. 1,” he replied.

Cobbs later amended his statement, saying N.C. State might be there, too, because he has a relationship with a quarterback the Wolfpack recently brought in. But it’s clear, Cobbs wants a UNC offer and the Tar Heels would be very hard to beat if he got one.

One reason he likes UNC is that he knows so much about the school and program, courtesy of former UNC quarterback Caleb Henderson, who transferred last August to Maryland.

Cobbs plays for Henderson’s father at Hayfield Secondary School, so the relationship with Caleb has been a key here for a couple of years.

“Caleb kind of put me on with UNC,” Cobbs said. “I never really had too much of an interest before I met Caleb, but once we started building a relationship and he was at UNC, I’d be down there a lot and building a relationship with the coaches. He kind of put me on with the other players, Mack Hollins, who just got rafted.”

Cobbs plans on camping at UNC in June, which will give him another opportunity to secure that coveted offer from the Tar Heels.
