Independence’s Leak wins Mr. NCHSAA 4-A Football

Chris Leak of Charlotte Independence is the winner of the 2001 Mr. NCHSAA 4-A Football award.

Leak, a 6-2 junior quarterback from Independence High School in Charlotte, has lead his team to a 16-0 season this year and a two 4-A state championships in a row. Leak has completed 263 passes for 4,012 yards and 51 touchdowns. Leak is the first player in NCHSAA history to pass for over 4,000 yards twice and only the second 4,000-yard passer in state history. Last year as a sophomore, he threw for 4,259 yards, a new state record and tossed 51 touchdowns.
Leak received 20 out of a possible 25 first-place votes to win the award.
The top runners-up for the award were East Mecklenburg’s Marshall Glenn, Charlotte Independence’s Mario Raley and Asheville Reynolds’ Derrick Eddington.
