A new name for UNC football fans to keep an eye on is Charleston, WV, quarterback Grant Wells.

A class of 2019 prospect, Wells is 6-1, 185 pounds, and he was in Chapel Hill this past weekend for the Tar Heels’ game versus Notre Dame.

A few notes about Wells: He attends the same high school that former UNC star Ryan Switzer attended; He has two offers right now from Marshall and Charlotte, but West Virginia is in regular contact as is UNC. He’s also hears from Oregon, Stanford and Cincinnati, among others.

Here is our interview with Grant Wells:

How did your visit to UNC over the weekend go?

“The visit went well. I talked to a lot of coaches and had a great time.”

Which coaches did you speak with and what did they say to you?

“Coach (Larry) Fedora and I talked mainly about my season and UNC’s season. Coach (Keith) Heckendorf and I talked about recruiting and he said that I was high on his board and I needed to keep and contact with him.”

What did you like about the facilities and being around the team?

“The facilities are some of the best in the county. Kenan Stadium was great atmosphere and everything else was top notch.”

The team is going through a rough time right now, mainly because they have a rash of injuries. Does that affect how you view the program, and if so or it doesn't, why?

“That’s kind of what Coach Fedora and I talked about. You can’t control injuries so it doesn’t change my viewpoint on the program. Both coach Heck and Fedora seemed optimistic about moving forward this season so hopefully they can move forward.”

On the recruiting front, how are things going for you and what schools are recruiting you the most?

“Other than my 2 offers, UNC and WVU are recruiting me the most. Marshall and Charlotte are my only offers right now but I have talked and am getting mail from multiple schools.”

What would an offer from UNC mean to you?

“It would be amazing. I can’t explain how big that would be for me and my family. Coach Fedora is pretty familiar with my high school, because of Ryan Switzer so following in his exact footsteps would be pretty special.”
