Tyrane Stewart, a defensive back who played this past season for East Mississippi Community College, has announced he is transferring to North Carolina.
Stewart, a cornerback who was part of a Lions team that went 10-3 and lost in the NJCAA Division I Football Championship Game, took an official visit to UNC this past weekend, concluding it Sunday.
“I liked a lot of things about it, especially the environment and the folks I met,” Stewart told THI early Tuesday afternoon.
At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Stewart had 64 tackles, of which 47 were solo, two TFLs, with two interceptions, and 12 PBUs this season for the storied EMCC program.
He attended South Pike High School in Magnolia, MS, and his hometown is listed as nearby Osyka, MS.
Stewart has a 3-star portal rating, and among his other offers were from NC State, which he visited a week ago, Illinois, plus G5 programs Toledo, UNLV, New Mexico, UConn, Southern Miss, and Akron. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
