CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina struggled early for the third time in four games and couldn’t overcome a hole for the second straight week in a 34-31 loss to Appalachian State on Saturday at Kenan Stadium.

The Tar Heels fell to 2-2 on the season while the Mountaineers improved to 3-0.
