Class of 2024 quarterback Michael Merdinger out of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL, has been committed to North Carolina since May.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder is coming off a very productive senior season where he led the Chiefs to a 9-4 record. He completed 211 of 378 passes for 2,849 yards with 26 touchdowns and ran 30 times for 156 yards with a touchdown.

THI caught up with Merdinger to get his latest thoughts on the Tar Heels:

THI: What are your thoughts on your senior season?

MERDINGER: "I enjoyed my senior season. I think overall it went good. I got a chance to improve my game and play with my brothers. Unfortunately, we didn’t finish the way we wanted to, but we fought until the end and lost to a really good team. I'm proud of the effort we gave."

THI: What do you think you improved on?

MERDINGER: "I improved on getting a feel for the game, my leadership, and decisiveness. Super thankful for my coaches, teammates, community, and Cardinal Gibbons for the support."

THI: What are some things that you are looking forward at UNC?

MERDINGER: "I’m excited to develop, improve, and grow from a great staff with a ton of experience."

THI: What are some of the things you like about Coach Lindsey and the UNC offense?

MERDINGER: "I love the tempo, style, efficiency, and concepts of the offense. I’m super excited to work with Coach Lindsey, he’s a positive and demanding coach."

THI: Have any UNC coaches visited you recently?

MERDINGER: "Coach Lindsey and Coach Brown are coming at the end of this week."
