North Carolina senior tight end Brandon Fritts has suffered a serious knee injury and is out indefinitely, which could mean the entire 2018 season, multiple sources very close to the situation have confirmed to THI.

Fritts had knee surgery earlier this week stemming from an injury suffered over the late in spring practice. There is nothing definitive at this time as to how long he will be out. Doctors will look at the situation at some point in the next couple of months and will have a better idea of the time table.

The window remains open on a possible return this season, but Fritts missing the entire campaign is also quite possible.

Fritts, who is 6-4 and 250 pounds, lost a good portion of his sophomore season because of an injury, but rebounded to catch 25 passes with four touchdowns last season. For his career, Fritts has caught 47 passes for 439 yards and nine touchdowns. He has three 2-point conversions, as well.

A native of Mentor, OH, he submitted his name to the NFL last December to get some information about his game and future. So he gave thought to leaving but decided to return for his final season.

“I got some feedback and they recommended I come back to school for my fifth year,” he said.

Fritts is entering his fifth year at UNC.
