CHAPEL HILL – If anyone in or around North Carolina’s football program understands what it has been through over the last 30 years it’s Tommy Thigpen.

He’s an expert on the ebb and flow UNC has experienced going back to the late 1980s and Wednesday afternoon he was also honest about it and why the program has struggled sustaining success.

UNC’s assistant coaches were made available to the media at the Kenan Football Center, and much of what Thigpen discusses focused on how the talent levels at Carolina have been through surges, leading to success on the field, and depletion, which steered things in the other direction.
