North Carolina had two players drafted on day one of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. Pitcher Daniel Moore was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the fourth pick in the second round, the 41st pick overall. The 6'5 junior southpaw out of Spencer, NC has been Carolina's number one starter all season and has posted a 7-2 record. Moore has recorded 18 wins in his career as a Tar Heel.
Outfielder Jeremy Cleveland was drafted by the Texas Rangers with the ninth pick in the eighth round. Cleveland was the 226th player selected overall. The junior from Fairfax, Va. has had a remarkable season at the plate, batting .406 with 19 home runs and 64 RBIs. With one more hit, Cleveland will become just the second player in UNC history to record 100 hits in a single season.
