North Carolina persevered over a tough 60 minutes of football to get a big 18-14 win over Miami Saturday afternoon in Coral Gables. Below is a series of postgame notes compiled by UNC Athletic Communications immediately after the game:
---North Carolina improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the ACC with an 18-14 victory over Miami.  It is the first road victory for head coach Larry Fedora at UNC.  It is Carolina's first win at Miami since 2008, a win that was later vacated.

---Carolina had a season-high 84 plays today for 486, including 272 rushing and 214 passing.  That is the most plays from scrimmage in a regulation game since running 88 at Virginia in 2000.  Carolina has rushed for 611 yards over the last two weeks (339 vs. Virginia Tech, 272 vs. Miami).

---Sophomore tailback Giovani Bernard finished with 27 carries for 177 yards and two touchdowns.  The 177 yards are the second-most in his career behind the 262 he had last week vs. Virginia Tech.  He scored two first-half touchdowns as Carolina took a 15-7 lead at the half. He scored on a 10-yard run on Carolina's first.  Bernard accounted for 45 of the 61 yards on the drive (33 rushing, 12 receiving).  He later scored on a 17-yard run in the second quarter.

---It is the fourth time this year and eighth time in his career that Bernard has scored multiple touchdowns in a game.

---This is Bernard's second consecutive game with more than 100 yards rushing.  He now has nine 100-yard rushing games in his career.  Bernard moved into 13th place in career rushing yards at UNC with 1,905, passing James Betterson (1,903), Ike Oglesby (1,773) and Jacque Lewis (1,746).

---North Carolina converted a two-point conversion after its second touchdown.  Holder Tommy Hibbard (who is also Carolina's starting punter) threw a pass to TE Eric Ebron who ran it in for two points.

---The Tar Heels had 15 penalties for 140 yards.  It is the second consecutive week the Tar Heels have had 15 penalties.  Last week vs. Virginia Tech, Carolina had 15 for 125 yards.

---WR Erik Highsmith tied his career high with eight receptions for 57 yards.

---North Carolina gave up an offensive touchdown in the third quarter when Miami QB Stephen Morris ran it in from five yards out.  That is the first offensive touchdown UNC has allowed in the third quarter this season.

---QB Bryn Renner completed 25 of 40 attempts for 214 yards and one interception.  This is the first game this season and just the second game in his career without a touchdown pass (2011 NC State).  He moved into third place in UNC history with 386 completions, passing Jason Stanicek (372).

---Place kicker Casey Barth booted a season-long 48-yard field goal in the third quarter, extending his career record for made field goals to 61.  Earlier in the game he missed a 33-yarder.  Barth converted his only PAT attempt on the day. Carolina has made 154 consecutive extra points, including a school-record 116 in a row by Barth.

---Freshman bandit Shakeel Rashad recorded his first career interception in the first half.

---Offensive guard Jonathan Cooper started his 42nd career game Saturday, most among active offensive linemen in the ACC.
